He ran taverns from 1965 on. His closest friends were Borislav Pekić, Borislav Mihajlović Mihiz, Brana Crnčević and Miroslav Mika Antić. Ivo Andrić, Branko Ćopić and Miloš Crnjanski dropped in as well.

A whole literature once sat at his tables

The house in a few pictures

Since autumn 2024 it has been run by the Đukić family. The interior was refreshed, the spirit stayed the same, and the fish still comes from fishermen on this stretch of the river.

A name from old Novi Sad, a house on the Danube

Fresh fish arrives from fishermen on this stretch of the Danube. Fish stew and fish soup are cooked the way they have always been cooked here.

Grilled meat, prepared simply and without hurry, with home style sides.

Dishes under the sač, cooked slowly and whole, the way the sač asks for.

Under the sač

From the Danube to the plate

In 1960 Đorđe Stanisavljev bought a Peugeot 203 and drove it into Novi Sad. From that day nobody called him by his given name again. He became Bata Pežo, and the nickname later passed to every tavern he opened.

It all started with one car

The name of Novi Sad bohemian Đorđe Stanisavljev, twenty six years of the restaurant on Kamenjar, and the Đukić family carrying the story on.

About us - Bata Pežo

Since autumn 2024 the restaurant has been run by Danilo Đukić as owner and Anastasija Đukić as manager. The dining room was renovated, the terrace over the water stayed where it was, and the menu grew without giving up what the house is known for.
